The ‘Social Adaptation Workshop’ was organized by the General Directorate of Migration Management in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the personnel of the Ministry of National Education and the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Bursa.
Speaking at the program, Beşkat, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Migration Management Harmonization and Communication Department, stated that in every period of history, those who escaped from places where they were persecuted took refuge in Anatolia, and said:
‘3.6 million Syrians are under temporary protection’
“Recently, we have seen that migration flows have both increased in number and diversified. Today, 3.6 million Syrians are staying in Turkey under temporary protection. Again, hundreds of thousands of people from Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan and other countries are living with us in these lands because they fled war and persecution in order to find international protection. However, as of today, more than 1 million people with residence permits and more than 100 thousand people with work permits have chosen Turkey to live. These 1 million people I mentioned are not people fleeing wars and persecution. They are people who have come to live in Turkey, to work in Turkey and to establish a business, and who live with us.
According to the news in AA, Beşkat pointed out the importance of the issue of harmony and continued as follows:
“Today, more than 5 million foreigners from 192 different nations live in Turkey. It is very important to carry out integration activities. We see these people as people who are far beyond numbers, each with their own lives, their own expectations, their own potential, and who can add value to our country. However, the issue of integration is not something that only one institution can do. In the early years of the migration originating from Syria, we mostly worked on the basic issues of registration, identification, and combating irregular migration. However, the main issue at this point is how these people can adapt to our country. The integration of international students, whose number has exceeded 150 thousand today, to our country is important.”
