Differences Between Work Permit and Montage Visa

The most commonly used visa types for foreigners to work legally in Turkey are assembly visas and work visas.

One of the things we have noticed based on our nearly 10 years of experience in this field is that many people do not know the difference between assembly visas and work visas.

In this blog post, we will talk about these two visa types, who can apply for which type, and their differences.

As Miorec, while providing foreign personnel visa consultancy, we manage your application process by selecting the most appropriate visa type after making analyses according to the needs of employer companies and visa approval criteria.

Montage Visa

An assembly / montage visa is a special type of visa that is applied for through Turkish Representatives abroad and must be prepared very well. It is a short-term work visa that grants the right to work for up to 90 days within 1 year for certain purposes. The visa is issued with multiple entries.

When applying for this type of visa, whether the conditions are met or not should be analyzed in detail and by professionals.

Foreigners who will come to Turkey for assembly, maintenance, repair, maintenance and education purposes can enter Turkey by obtaining an Assembly Visa from the Turkish Consulates in the countries where they are citizens or officially reside.

No SSI entry is made for foreign personnel entering with an assembly visa. The salary and social security obligations of foreign personnel continue to be fulfilled from abroad. It will be sufficient for the employer in Turkey to provide the Invitation Letter. The passport of the foreigner who applies is issued within 1-3 business days based on the approval of his/her visa.

Work Visa

Work visa application is a process that does not tolerate errors.

Work Permits are given by the General Directorate of International Workforce under the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, after being evaluated according to the purpose of foreigners coming to Turkey, their nationality, the information of the foreigner registered in the Turkish database, and bilateral agreements.

This type of visa allows the employee to work for up to 1 year. It can be extended by applying for an extension before the 1-year period ends. It is issued as a single entry, but the employee can make multiple entries and exits with the work permit card for a period of one year.

This type of visa involves a two-stage application process. First, the applicant applies for a “work visa” at the Turkish Consulates, and Miorec applies for a “work permit” to the Ministry of Labor on behalf of the employer with the reference number provided during the visa application. Including the approval of the Ministry, it usually takes approximately 6-8 weeks to obtain a “work visa” and passport.

Differences Between Work Permit and Assembly Visa

– Assembly Visa grants the right to work for 90 days within 1 year and cannot be extended.

– Work Permit is initially granted for 1 year and can be extended provided that the conditions are met.

– In the works carried out with assembly visa, no payment such as salary, insurance or tax is made in Turkey for foreign personnel.

– In the Work Permit (except for the foreigner’s social security obligations, the foreigner’s insurance and salary payments continue in one of the countries with bilateral social security agreements), the foreign personnel will be on the employer company’s payroll and the salary, social security and tax payments will be made by the employer in Turkey.

– The process of obtaining an Assembly Visa takes approximately 2-3 weeks, including the preparation period.

– In the work permit, this period can be up to 8-9 weeks.
